Clinical Bound: five days in Versailles, and the site you need first

What the X750 course is

Each MSN and PGC track has its own Clinical Bound course, titled CB: Transition to Clinical and worth one lab credit: NM750 for nurse-midwifery, FNP750 for family practice, WH750 for women's health and MH750 for psychiatric-mental health. The catalog describes a “five-day/four-night skills-intensive experience” on the Versailles campus, held after your didactic courses are done.

The week uses simulation labs, standardized patients and the Simulation IQ software listed in the portal's apps, and FNU's PMHNP page says its session includes simulated patient encounters. In 2026, sessions run Monday to Friday in the first weeks of each term; Fall 2026 has six weekly sessions between October 5 and November 13. Clinical Bound is the gate between coursework and the practicum. Your 751, 752 and 753 practicum courses follow it, and they carry the 750 clinical hours.

When Clinical Bound falls in your program

FNU's October 2025 programs of study place Clinical Bound right after the last didactic specialty course. The term depends on your track, your degree and the pace you chose.

Terms are 11 weeks long with a two-week break between them, and FNU runs four terms a year. Your degree audit from Academic Advising shows your own Projected Clinical Bound Term, and that is the date to plan against. The placement timeline page works backward from it.

The site you need before you can register

The catalog is direct: “Students cannot be registered for Clinical Bound until a site has been identified” and submitted to Clinical Credentialing. In practice that means a preceptor has committed, you have sent a Clinical Site Approval Form through the Community Map, and your RCF has accepted it. The RCF assigns your Clinical Bound date once at least one site is accepted.

Two details catch people out. The site must offer at least the weekly hours required by your first clinical course, which the catalog sets at 20 hours a week for the 751 course in every track. PMHNP students need an accepted CSAF with a preceptor “who has psychiatric prescribing authority.”

The catalog also expects a complete clinical plan, covering all visit types and hours, before Clinical Bound registration. Students without one “may need to take an Academic Hiatus.” How that plan is built is covered on My Clinical Plan.

Compliance the term before Clinical Bound

Clinical compliance runs on its own clock. According to FNU's CastleBranch page, Clinical Credentialing emails you in Week 1 of the term before your Clinical Bound term, runs three information sessions that term, and sets the due date in Week 5.

The items go into CastleBranch: RN license verification through Nursys Quick Confirm, BLS, a clinical background check, the FNU Student Health Verification Form, the OSHA/HIPAA module and HIPAA Agreement Form, proof of health insurance and a records release form. Nurse-midwifery students add neonatal resuscitation and fetal heart monitoring education, and WHNP students add fetal heart monitoring. The CSAF is the one clinical document that does not go through CastleBranch.

Missing items cause a block that prevents registration for Clinical Bound and all courses taken at CB, and FNU notes this may bring late registration fees. A current health examination is also required before you attend any Bound.

From Clinical Bound to your first clinical day

1. Transition interview with your RCFBefore Clinical Bound you complete a Pre-Clinical Interview or Transition to Clinical Interview with your RCF, uploading the requested forms beforehand.
2. Orientation meeting with your preceptorThe catalog asks each student to hold a pre-clinical orientation meeting with the preceptor, working through a ten-point agenda.
3. Five days in VersaillesYou complete Clinical Bound on campus. The catalog also mentions a Clinical Bound Housing and Travel form for the trip.
4. Final releaseYour RCF gives final release for the site and preceptor before your first clinical day.
5. Start only when clearedThe catalog treats starting clinical before site or preceptor credentialing is complete as grounds for dismissal, even with Clinical Bound behind you.

If your Clinical Bound term has to move

A projected Clinical Bound term can slip, for example when a site is not ready. If yours changes, the catalog asks you to tell four people: your RCF, your preceptor or preceptors, your Clinical Credentialing Coordinator and your Academic Advisor. Each is working to a date, and a preceptor who planned around one term may not be available in the next.

FNU's Clinical Transitions Coordinator handles Clinical Bound make-up arrangements. Moving the term is not the only possible outcome, though: the catalog raises an Academic Hiatus for students without a complete plan, and FNU limits students to two academic hiatus terms in any 365 days.
